Congratulations to Kris on his recent victory over
undefeated Ozan Craddock, claiming the
Queensland welterweight title at Rumours
International on March 14.

Each quarter, we interview one of our clients to get an insight into their business. This issue, we spoke to Kris George, owner of Fish ‘N’ Bits Toowoomba.

When did your business commence?
Fish ‘N’ Bits started in 1998 in a small shed at the owners’ home. I purchased the business in September 2010 from the original owners.

What does your business do?
Fish ‘N’ Bits sells fishing tackle and equipment along with kayaks, electric motors and hunting supplies.

What makes your business successful?
Fish ‘N’ Bits’ success comes from stocking the equipment that is right for the application and accompanying it with the right advice. We don’t try to stock bits of everything, we just stock the best, and we know what the best is from years of experience in the field of fishing at a high level. Knowing what you’re talking about is one thing but believing what you’re saying will ring through to the customer and that’s how we continue to get the sales.

What has been your biggest achievement to date?
The biggest achievement for Fish’N’ Bits would have to be taking on The Chronicle fishing report each week. We have a full page to ourselves to promote fishing and products, and I have seen great results for the business since obtaining this report.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone starting up a business?
The best advice I can give is not to rush into anything; when you are excited and keen you tend to look past anything that seems a little wrong and might be a problem and only look at the big picture. Whenever a decision is to be made, I believe never answer it straight away; give yourself time to think it over regardless of the pressure.

How do you relax from the pressures of being in business?
There is no simple answer for this one - business is constantly on your mind! I am also a professional boxer so training and fighting is my way of keeping my mind off the stresses of being in business.
