Power Tynan staff visit Teen Challenge centre in Toowoomba

Power Tynan has provided a major funding boost for youth support group Teen Challenge Queensland.

We donated $2,500 from our Charitable Trust to help provide long-term residential treatment and rehabilitation services for young people aged from 16 to 29 who are struggling with issues such as addictions, self-harm, eating disorders, depression and homelessness.

Amanda (pictured centre) presented the cheque to Craig & resident Daina.

Power Tynan staff also took up an invitation from Teen Challenge Queensland’s manager of program operations, Craig Watson, to visit the centre and learn more about its work.

We have also opened online donations to the Trust to further expand its capabilities.

“Our staff give generously to our Trust and we want to provide the same opportunity to our clients and the wider public,” explained Executive Director Amanda Kenafake.

“We have set up a secure system through the Community page of our web site.”

“This wonderful donation will go a long way in our work with young people, particularly in the Darling Downs region,” said Craig.

He said that Teen Challenge receives no government funding and relies completely on the community to support troubled youth.

“Every day we receive at least one call from a young person in real need or from a concerned relative,” said Craig. “Donations such as this are vital if we are to keep our doors open. We currently provide accommodation and rehabilitation for up to 15 young men and five young women. We could increase that to a total of 34 if we could source enough funding for staff and resources.”

According to Daina, the 12-month residential program at Teen Challenge turned her life around.

“I was out of options last year,” she said. “I had no idea how to live my life, to take responsibility for anything. I simply could not cope day to day.” Now Daina is working as an intern at the Teen Challenge centre in Toowoomba and is planning to study social work at university.

Queensland’s CareFlight aeromedical service has been boosted by a $2,500 donation from Power Tynan.

The cheque to CareFlight was presented to CareFlight Queensland’s south-west Relationship Manager Sarah Delahunty by Executive Director Amanda Kenafake at a ceremony in the Power Tynan Stanthorpe office.

“This important donation can help us further by providing critical equipment on board our flights,” explained Sarah (pictured right with Amanda). “For example, a trauma and blood kit costs us $1,400. We carry these on many missions such as attending major motor vehicle accidents on regional and rural roads.

“Every lifesaving mission we fly costs CareFlight an average of $12,500.”

Amanda said: “We truly appreciate the incredible work of CareFlight in regional and rural Australia. Knowing that these funds can have an immediate impact in saving lives is exciting to our team.” Sarah said that CareFlight’s work touches nearly everyone in the community.

“Every dollar a person donates will go toward helping someone the donor knows,” she said. “We help many people in every single community.” CareFlight was established in 1986 to provide rapid response critical care.

Today the organisation operates a fleet of helicopters, aeroplanes and medi-jets to bring a hospital level of care to the critically ill and injured.

CareFlight doctors and nurses are specially trained in pre-hospital and transport medicine. They care for severely injured patients who need emergency treatment at the scene of the incident. They also transport seriously ill patients who need to be moved between hospitals. Currently, CareFlight aeromedical teams care for more than 5,000 patients a year.

The Power Tynan Charitable Trust opened in 2010 and has since donated more than $100,000 to a variety of charities across the Darling Downs, Granite Belt and wider community. Recipients include the Toowoomba Hospice, Lifeline, the Cancer Council, RACQ CareFlight, the Rural Fire Brigade and many more not-for-profit organisations.

Donations can be made online by going to the Charitable Trust page of our website, or call us on 07 4688 8400. All major cards are accepted.
