National Export and Innovation Conference held at the Empire Theatre in Toowoomba

Export & Innovation Conference

Power Tynan exhibited at the TSBE Ag in the Asian Century, National Export and Innovation Conference held at the Empire Theatre in Toowoomba at the beginning of October.

This opportunity allowed us to showcase our organisation to business leaders, senior government officials, prominent industry representatives and leading academics who came together to hear from industry leaders and listen to Australian business success stories.

The Conference shines a spotlight on some of the emerging realities around Asian growth.

Social Club Gets Cooking

Toowoomba staff of Power Tynan held their first Social Club outing on Friday, 17th October at The Sauce Kitchen.

A fantastic time was had by all, making tapas and enjoying great company.

Thank you to the staff at The Sauce Kitchen for a wonderful evening!

Flying high

Boh Burima and Justin Still recently attended the launch of Cirrus Aircraft’s newest sales centre and the latest Cirrus SR22 aircraft along with an update on the production progress of the new Vision SF50 personal jet. Boh and Justin were invited to attend by client Ross Harrison, who is the Chief Executive of Cirrus Sunshine Coast.

Working as a Team

Power Tynan staff took part in their first session of ‘Building our Team – Creating a Common Language’ facilitated by SeeChange Consulting. The session covered the Action Learning Cycle and High Performance Teams and allowed the groups to participate in activities during which they could reflect on and review their performance while working as a team.

The feedback from staff has been fantastic and we are looking forward to having SeeChange's Maria and Tracy back in February to run the second session.

Toowoomba’s Best Dressed winners Paul Best and Teresa Ley

Melbourne Cup celebrations

Melbourne Cup celebrations were held in both the Stanthorpe and Toowoomba offices, with staff placing their votes for Best Dressed Male and Female in each office. Stanthorpe winners were Brett McEvoy and Toni Jackson with Paul Best and Teresa Ley taking out the prizes in Toowoomba.

"Old Bags" raises funds for women

Fiona Vasta and Elvee Brisbane of our Toowoomba office recently attended the YWCA Old Bags Lunch held to celebrate women’s leadership and raise funds to continue their transformative work with Queensland women.

There was also an auction of pre-loved handbags (‘old bags’) donated by iconic Australian women including Quentin Bryce, Julia Gillard, Anna Bligh and Kay McGrath.

More baby news

It is with great excitement that we can announce Elizabeth O’Shea (one of our Accounting Team Managers in the Toowoomba office) and her partner Richard are expecting the birth of their first child. From 23rd January 2015, Liz will be on maternity leave for approximately six to 12 months.

Liz will make every effort over the coming months to introduce her clients to the relevant staff member handling tax affairs in her absence, or alternatively you will be notified via correspondence of the new staff members’ contact details.

Christmas Wonderland

On Monday 15th December, members of the Toowoomba office are volunteering at the Christmas Wonderland held in Queens Park, an event which raises much needed funds for three major local charities: Lifeline Darling Downs & South West Qld Ltd, Toowoomba Hospital Foundation and Toowoomba Hospice.

CEO Paul Hilton explained: "Power Tynan volunteers each year at Toowoomba’s Christmas Wonderland to help celebrate Christmas within the Darling Downs community. It is great to see the young children (and not so young!) enjoy the atmosphere of a truly community-minded Christmas event. Our staff enjoy the interaction with patrons at this event and is a way to have fun outside the workplace.

"At this time of year it is important to ensure all of our community can enjoy the festive season in a safe and happy environment. Assisting with this event is truly a worthwhile and rewarding experience for all."

Bringing back the Mo for men's health

Movember is all about bringing the moustache back to the workplace and the lads of Power Tynan were looking mighty fine throughout the month, with 19 of our (male) staff taking part this year!

The lads have raised more than $7,000 to help fund men's health programs. Around the world the Movember community has raised $580 million to date and funded more than 800 programs in 21 countries. This work is saving and improving the lives of men affected by prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.

Paul Best led the charge for hairy upper lips for charity. He says: “I'm passionate about this cause because my family has been touched by prostate cancer and we still see too many men dying unnecessarily from this disease. Each year around 20,000 Aussie men are diagnosed and more than 3,200 sadly die from prostate cancer.

"I hope, with the support to fund this important work, we can create a world where no man dies of prostate cancer.” As the month wrapped up, we presented awards for the best efforts throughout the event.

Of course, Paul took out "Mister Movember". Dan Beck took the dubious award of "Miss Movember" because he kept hiding his upper lip. The "Mo of the People" award went to Andrew Crestani on a popular vote and Brad Hancock received the award for "Most Funds Raised" for amassing an amazing $2,640.

There is still time to show your support! You can donate online to the ‘Powerful Mo’s’ team by visiting http://au.movember.com/team/1534265
