My Say with Brad Hancock - February 2022

Welcome to 2022!

As I write this My Say, I reflect on the world happily bidding farewell to 2021 - a year that came with many frustrations, highs and lows, challenges and rollercoasters for most people and businesses alike. I feel we all had high hopes for 2022.

It has not quite started out as planned with increasing cases of COVID-19, business interruption and closures that continue to challenge people and business. To put it mildly, our world is changing fast, and organisations must adapt and respond accordingly. Here’s what that looks like for 2022:

1. Sustainable, resilient operations

Every organisation must seek to eliminate or reduce the environmental cost of doing business and seek to improve sustainability and efficiency across the entire business.

2. The balance between human workers and intelligent robots

With the increasing capability of Robots and Artificial Intelligence, employers need to find the balance between intelligent machines and human nature/intelligence. AI and robotics will affect every industry and business leaders must prepare their people, and their organisation, for the changing nature of work.

3. The shifting talent pool and changing employee experience

Commonly termed ‘The Great Resignation’. Now is the time for organisations to reflect and change to reset the employee experience, retention, and culture before it is too late.

4. Flatter, more agile organisations

Leaders are recognising the need for flatter, more agile structures that allow teams to respond and adapt to change quickly.

5. Authenticity

People are seeking a more meaningful connection and experience with everything in their life including the brands and businesses they support. The need for connection gives rise to authenticity and human qualities like honesty, reliability, empathy and compassion.

6. Purposeful business

Like authenticity, this trend is making sure your business exists to serve a meaningful purpose. What is your ‘Why?’.

7. Cooperation and integration

To succeed, businesses are going to need stronger supply chains, partnerships, data integration and sharing of resources. There is a real need to work together to problem solve.

8. New forms of funding

There are many new forms and platforms for funding from investors, donors, crowdfunding, initial coin offerings and special purpose acquisition companies. The traditional forms are being challenged.

This is a small snapshot of some of the key trends in business as we move into 2022 and perhaps one the most challenging years that we remember. Take the time to think on the impact of the changing landscape on your business, it could raise more questions than answers at first.
